The takeover of a country generally takes years to set up, but a relatively short time to complete. Kristallnacht, The October Revolution, The Cultural Revolution, and The Killing Fields are all examples of this “last straw” effect. The American people have stood by and watched while those in government have taken more and more control of our lives. We complied when those who claim to hate America demanded that we submit to the destruction of our rights and liberties.
Today, we see not only the wholesale destruction of our rights but the constitutional republic as well. And what do most Americans do in this extension threat to our freedom? For most of them, it’s to whine on social media, that is if they do anything at all. Are we witnessing America’s own “last straw” events? Is this the historical moment when the experiment in self-government fails? Are the people fiddling while America burns?

Who is in charge of your children? That has been a perennial question that has grown in importance over the last few years. When I was a child, it was understood that, with rare exceptions, parents were in charge of a child’s upbringing. This included medical, religious, and educational decisions. However, over the last few decades, the role of the parent in these decisions has been replaced by experts. What happens when the goal of the experts differs from those of the parents? Who decides the future of the rising generations? It was understood that the state acted in loco parentis, in place of the parents, only for the safety of the child. A recent case in U.S. District Court shows that be it health departments, child services, schools, or even the courts. Government not only believes they know better than the parents, they are more than willing to act in loco parentis tyrannis.

With over 30 years of experience in Information Technology (IT), not more than a passing understanding of AIs, I've come to the conclusion that much of what I've heard is more science fiction than fact. When it comes to freedom of speech, there are two things that generate a fair amount of controversy. First is yelling “Fire” in a crowded theater and second is burning the United States flag. Recently, Donald Trump issued an Executive Order about flag burning. So let's take a look at the order and some of the history around flag burning.
It seems most people look to the federal government to fix every problem. I think that’s because they are under the false impression that the federal government can do anything it wants.
