The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday temporarily blocked an order that would lift Title 42, the pandemic-era health policy that has been used to deter migrants more than 2.5 million times.
The order Monday by Chief Justice John Roberts comes as cities along the U.S.-Mexico border have been scrambling to prepare for an expected influx of migrants in anticipation of Title 42’s end.
Who is in charge of your children? That has been a perennial question that has grown in importance over the last few years. When I was a child, it was understood that, with rare exceptions, parents were in charge of a child’s upbringing. This included medical, religious, and educational decisions. However, over the last few decades, the role of the parent in these decisions has been replaced by experts. What happens when the goal of the experts differs from those of the parents? Who decides the future of the rising generations? It was understood that the state acted in loco parentis, in place of the parents, only for the safety of the child. A recent case in U.S. District Court shows that be it health departments, child services, schools, or even the courts. Government not only believes they know better than the parents, they are more than willing to act in loco parentis tyrannis.

Does life imitate art? After all, this country, and in fact the world, is looking more like the novels 1984 and Animal Farm. Then I saw an opinion piece by John and Nisha Whitehead claiming that we are effectively living in version of the Matrix. For those of you unfamiliar with the Matrix movies, the relevant premise is that almost all of humanity “lives” in an illusion, a virtual reality of independence and freedom while their bodies are enslaved to serve a master artificial intelligence. Santayana said “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” I’ve used that quote innumerable times, especially when I see people repeating the mistakes of the past. Like when Europe once again runs headlong into tyranny while those in the United States are looking to emulate them. Or when we have yet another election theft being planned, and in some cases executed, right here in the U.S. of A. Will the American people stand by while government actors steal our rights? Based on my observations, the answer is “YES”.

There's an adage in the legal profession, "hard cases make bad law". It can also be said that bad cases make bad law, and the case of United States v. Rahimi is one of those bad cases. The question is legitimate. Does 18 U. S. C. §922(g)(8), which prohibits a person under domestic violence restraining order from possessing a firearm or ammunition, violate the Second Amendment. However, for those of you who are thinking the answer is yes, Zackey Rahimi is not the person you would want leading this case.
