America is a very litigious society.
This is born out by looking at the numbers. According to the American Bar Association, there are more than 1.3 million lawyers in the United States, while the Association of American Medical Colleges states approximately 940,000 total active physicians.
While that number may not be shocking, you may be surprised to hear that 27% of all the nation’s lawyers live in just two states, New York and California. That should not be too surprising; after all, California and New York are two of the most populous states in the union.
However, I think there’s something much more serious under those numbers.
I cannot tell you how often someone contacts me and assumes the only redress they have for their grievance, the only opportunity they have to get justice, is to file a court case, especially a federal one. People act like judges will either give them the justice they need or are so corrupt they don’t have a chance. And because everything seems to turn into a court case, there is a great demand for attorneys.
So today, I want to look at some recent court cases and see how we are getting justice from the judicial branch. Then I want to look at some pending lawsuits to see if justice can be served.

Who is in charge of your children? That has been a perennial question that has grown in importance over the last few years. When I was a child, it was understood that, with rare exceptions, parents were in charge of a child’s upbringing. This included medical, religious, and educational decisions. However, over the last few decades, the role of the parent in these decisions has been replaced by experts. What happens when the goal of the experts differs from those of the parents? Who decides the future of the rising generations? It was understood that the state acted in loco parentis, in place of the parents, only for the safety of the child. A recent case in U.S. District Court shows that be it health departments, child services, schools, or even the courts. Government not only believes they know better than the parents, they are more than willing to act in loco parentis tyrannis.

With the release of ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence (AI) applications, there has been a lot of speculation and downright assertions about our future. With over 30 years of experience in Information Technology (IT), not more than a passing understanding of AIs, I've come to the conclusion that much of what I've heard is more science fiction than fact.
