When I was a young man, just getting started in business, I was given a good piece of advice. “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” The people I encountered would be less concerned with my knowledge and credentials until they saw if how I lived my life including caring about them. This simple phrase has not only been shown true over my lifetime, but I’ve used it to help become very successful in my career. As proof that there is nothing new under the sun, Jesus said something very similar the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 17: “You will know them by their fruits.” It’s not someones credentials, or even their reputation that gives you real insight about them, but what comes out of what they do, the fruit of their lives.
Now lets look at some of the “fruit” of those in positions of trust and profit in our lives today. Is that fruit sweet, juicy, and pleasant, or rotten and bitter? As we are already preparing for another elections, perhaps instead of focusing on donkeys and elephants, we should be looking the the fruit of people’s lives and policies to help guide our decisions. - Live 4PM ET with Host Paul Engel @CyberEngel

Who is in charge of your children? That has been a perennial question that has grown in importance over the last few years. When I was a child, it was understood that, with rare exceptions, parents were in charge of a child’s upbringing. This included medical, religious, and educational decisions. However, over the last few decades, the role of the parent in these decisions has been replaced by experts. What happens when the goal of the experts differs from those of the parents? Who decides the future of the rising generations? It was understood that the state acted in loco parentis, in place of the parents, only for the safety of the child. A recent case in U.S. District Court shows that be it health departments, child services, schools, or even the courts. Government not only believes they know better than the parents, they are more than willing to act in loco parentis tyrannis.

With the release of ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence (AI) applications, there has been a lot of speculation and downright assertions about our future. With over 30 years of experience in Information Technology (IT), not more than a passing understanding of AIs, I've come to the conclusion that much of what I've heard is more science fiction than fact. A recent court case decided in the D.C. District Court revolved around one very important question. Do AIs have rights?

Just when you think DOGE has gotten to the bottom of the barrel, they find more barrel. I’d say “If you want to get out of a hole, stop digging.” But I’ve been so happy at all of the waste, fraud, and abuse that’s been discovered. The United States is supposed to be a nation of laws, not of men. However, over the decades, the laws of this nation have been taken over not only by bureaucrats and politicians, but by judges. Judges who, by the way, almost always place the opinions of other judges above the supreme law of the land.
