How can you tell when a politician is lying? The answer, generally, is “Their lips are moving!” I have used this joke as an example not of the corruption of the political class but of the American citizen who continues to hire liars, cheats, and thieves to represent them. But what happens when we become so conditioned to lies that we not only accept them, but reject the truth?
In her book “The Crown of a Life”, Agnes Tremore makes this prescient statement: “If a lie is only printed often enough, it becomes a quasi-truth, and if such a truth is repeated often enough, it becomes an article of belief, a dogma, and men will die for it.” Today I see many people who are willing to die for a lie. Even worse, they seem prepared to kill for it. Lies about vaccines, lies about the Dept. of Justice and the IRS, even lies about your rights. And yet we routinely return to the politician who states, rather like character Captain Renault in the movie Casablanca, “I'm shocked, shocked to find that lying is going on in here!”
If we are to stop the lying in its tracks, it will not be the actions of an individual, but of We the People. Who in America will stand up for the truth, point out the lie, like the boy pointing out that the emperor is naked? Who will stand in the gap to thwart the flow of this evil? Who is in charge of your children? That has been a perennial question that has grown in importance over the last few years. When I was a child, it was understood that, with rare exceptions, parents were in charge of a child’s upbringing. This included medical, religious, and educational decisions. However, over the last few decades, the role of the parent in these decisions has been replaced by experts. What happens when the goal of the experts differs from those of the parents? Who decides the future of the rising generations? It was understood that the state acted in loco parentis, in place of the parents, only for the safety of the child. A recent case in U.S. District Court shows that be it health departments, child services, schools, or even the courts. Government not only believes they know better than the parents, they are more than willing to act in loco parentis tyrannis.

Just when you think DOGE has gotten to the bottom of the barrel, they find more barrel. I’d say “If you want to get out of a hole, stop digging.” But I’ve been so happy at all of the waste, fraud, and abuse that’s been discovered. The United States is supposed to be a nation of laws, not of men. However, over the decades, the laws of this nation have been taken over not only by bureaucrats and politicians, but by judges. Judges who, by the way, almost always place the opinions of other judges above the supreme law of the land.
