F.D.R. famously said “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” In America today, it seems we are so afraid of fear that we’ll throw our rights out the window.
First it was the climate hoax. A bunch of (usually) government funded scientist said we’re all going to die, and we were willing to give up control of our energy independence in homage to the climate gods. Next, we knelt to the group of children, scolding us for not destroying our lives fast enough. And no matter how much scientific data shows that the climate is not changing as fast or as badly as we’ve been led to believe, it seems the American people are afraid to stand up against the tyranny.
Look at what happened when COVID-19 hit. All it took was some government bureacrats to say so and we locked down, masked up, and took a bunch of shots. Those who did not bend the knee to those who thought they were government overlords were punished.

Who is in charge of your children? That has been a perennial question that has grown in importance over the last few years. When I was a child, it was understood that, with rare exceptions, parents were in charge of a child’s upbringing. This included medical, religious, and educational decisions. However, over the last few decades, the role of the parent in these decisions has been replaced by experts. What happens when the goal of the experts differs from those of the parents? Who decides the future of the rising generations? It was understood that the state acted in loco parentis, in place of the parents, only for the safety of the child. A recent case in U.S. District Court shows that be it health departments, child services, schools, or even the courts. Government not only believes they know better than the parents, they are more than willing to act in loco parentis tyrannis.

With the release of ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence (AI) applications, there has been a lot of speculation and downright assertions about our future. With over 30 years of experience in Information Technology (IT), not more than a passing understanding of AIs, I've come to the conclusion that much of what I've heard is more science fiction than fact. A recent court case decided in the D.C. District Court revolved around one very important question. Do AIs have rights?

When it comes to freedom of speech, there are two things that generate a fair amount of controversy. First is yelling “Fire” in a crowded theater and second is burning the United States flag. Recently, Donald Trump issued an Executive Order about flag burning. So let's take a look at the order and some of the history around flag burning.
It seems most people look to the federal government to fix every problem. I think that’s because they are under the false impression that the federal government can do anything it wants. I’m not sure if there have been more acts of violence lately, or they’ve just been covered more in the media. What many of these acts have in common may surprise you.
