We hear it all the time. Claims that such and such is a threat to American democracy. I have shown time and time again that the United States is not a democracy, but a republic. While I’ve frequently pointed out that most calls to save American democracy seem to be more about saving the Democratic Party, a recent story seems to put a new wrinkle on this topic.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is claiming that new rules for the DNC presidential primaries are designed to rig the process for Joe Biden. While I haven’t seem proof that Mr. Kennedy’s claims are true, it certainly would be in keeping with the recent history of the undemocratic Democratic party. However, that isn’t all. Look at the recent attempts to silence “mis/disinformation”. That is just another attempt to interfere with the democratic process these people claim to love so much.
If you want to see the antithesis of democracy, the best place to start seems to be with those who are promoting it. Perhaps that is why our Founding Fathers created a republic, rather than a democracy, and why Benjamin Franklin warned us that it was up to us to keep it. - Live 4PM ET with Host Paul Engel @CyberEngel

Who is in charge of your children? That has been a perennial question that has grown in importance over the last few years. When I was a child, it was understood that, with rare exceptions, parents were in charge of a child’s upbringing. This included medical, religious, and educational decisions. However, over the last few decades, the role of the parent in these decisions has been replaced by experts. What happens when the goal of the experts differs from those of the parents? Who decides the future of the rising generations? It was understood that the state acted in loco parentis, in place of the parents, only for the safety of the child. A recent case in U.S. District Court shows that be it health departments, child services, schools, or even the courts. Government not only believes they know better than the parents, they are more than willing to act in loco parentis tyrannis.

With the release of ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence (AI) applications, there has been a lot of speculation and downright assertions about our future. With over 30 years of experience in Information Technology (IT), not more than a passing understanding of AIs, I've come to the conclusion that much of what I've heard is more science fiction than fact. A recent court case decided in the D.C. District Court revolved around one very important question. Do AIs have rights?
In this third installment of the three-part series on the branches of government, we look at the role of the third and weakest branch. At least that is what our Founding Fathers thought of it. What is the role of the federal judiciary? What are the extent of their powers, how do they related to the other two branches of government, and why is a proper understanding of the role of the judiciary critical if the United States is to remain a constitutional republic?

How many of you realize that civics isn’t taught in our schools today. Even in law schools, the Constitution, the supreme law of the land, is not taught. How can America be a constitutional republic when no one knows what the Constitution actually says? - Live 4PM ET with Host Paul Engel @CyberEngel @OutLoudNews

Some people claim that the First Amendment is first because it’s of first importance. But is that true? And is the Second Amendment really there to protect the first, as some people say? Let’s take a closer look at these common statements. - Live 4PM ET with Host Paul Engel @CyberEngel @OutLoudNews

Back in June I wrote about the oral arguments in Mexico's law suit against American gun manufacturers and distributors. While the court overall came to the expected decision, I think it's still worth some time digging into the logic and reasoning of the justices.
