I’m old enough to remember Superman’s original motto, including fighting for “Truth, Justice, and the American Way”. When did we migrate from fighting for truth, justice, and the American way, and start fighting against it?
I’m not saying that America is, or ever has been perfect. But when did we find it acceptable to use the force of law to attack our political opponents? I remember when President Nixon resigned to avoid impeachment for covering up a burglary of the office of his political opponents, but today we’re looking at the Department of Justice, FBI, ATF, the military, and even state and local prosecutors attacking their opponents with impunity. Now, it seems those prosecutors are targeting those attempting to defend themselves while defending those committing crimes. Our economy has been under attack for decades, but the last few years the fight has gone from a guerrilla campaign to an out right kinetic action. We see state and federal administrations attacking the life’s blood of our economy, affordable energy, because of a disproven myth of man-made climate change.

Who is in charge of your children? That has been a perennial question that has grown in importance over the last few years. When I was a child, it was understood that, with rare exceptions, parents were in charge of a child’s upbringing. This included medical, religious, and educational decisions. However, over the last few decades, the role of the parent in these decisions has been replaced by experts. What happens when the goal of the experts differs from those of the parents? Who decides the future of the rising generations? It was understood that the state acted in loco parentis, in place of the parents, only for the safety of the child. A recent case in U.S. District Court shows that be it health departments, child services, schools, or even the courts. Government not only believes they know better than the parents, they are more than willing to act in loco parentis tyrannis.
